Part 1In my practice of Feng Shui, I have found there to be a number of major principles necessary for health and wellness. There are six core principles that need to be considered if we truly want to experience balance in our homes, our bodies and the universe. These core principles are: - The recognition that everything is energy.
- The harmony of Yin and Yang.
- The understanding of the seven layers of the universe.
- The enhancement of Chi within and around us.
- The protection from energetic drains.
- The balance of acidity and alkalinity.
1. Everything is energy:A few years ago a statement like this would have caused some protest. Today it is more and more accepted and becoming common knowledge: There is practically no matter involved in the physical form of solid appearing objects. As soon as we switch over to micro-cosmic dimensions we only see frequencies, vibration and all dense form disappears. Even the particles within an atom dissolve into more subtle energetic patterns, chaotic dust in a state between light and matter or just quantum particles. One of my favorites examples is still the mind-blowing proportions within an atom: Although most people remember the basic appearance of an atom, few are aware of the incredible dimensions within. For the purpose of analogy, if we increase the nucleus of an atom to the size of a basketball, the electrons which swirl around at nearly light speed, would still only be the size of grains of sand. The distance, however, between those grains of sand and the basketball would measure about 15 miles. And all the space in between is nothing but emptiness, complete and total emptiness. Isn’t that amazing?
If we look even further into the nucleus of an atom, it starts to fade away in front of our eyes. Again, smaller and smaller forms finally turn into just vibration. 2. The harmony of Yin and Yang:Thousands of years ago, Asian philosophy introduced us to the world of Yin and Yang, two opposites emerging from duality, but ultimately connected. Hot and cold, light and dark, male and female, none can exist without the other. The Yin/Yang symbol below shows how at the farthest extreme of one quality, the other is still present. There is harmony and balance in everything in nature. If imbalance occurs over an extended period of time, species start to suffer and sickness occurs. Our body goes through phases of tension and relaxation all the time. It uses two systems of regulation, the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic system controls our muscle tones and initiates the fight and flight response. It signals the production of adrenalin in times of danger to keep us alert and on the move. The parasympathetic system is in charge of unconscious mechanisms in the body, such as breathing, heartbeat and all automatic functions. It also is in charge of relaxation which allows healing. It is important to understand that these two processes and relaxation cannot happen at the same time. If somebody is constantly stressed, healing cannot take place!
Chronic stress is a drain on our resources to the point where exhaustion exceeds “normal” levels and lasts longer than it takes to recover. Thresholds for stress are individual and subjective. If surpassed they leave permanent damage like a spring which has been stretched beyond its point of return. Once a threatening situation is over, the body goes through a countermovement. If the tension was too much, it now swings back and might exceed the limits for a healthy balance again, only this time in a state of recovery. It might manifest as a cold or flu-like situation or in the form of an overall breakdown. The body goes into deep sleep until it gains enough strength to be able to recover properly. Hospitals will sometimes keep a patient in a coma in order to give the body time to recover from a major trauma or accident. I remember when I was in middle school, long class trips were always followed with being home sick with a fever for a few days. After a week of all the excitement my body was so exhausted that it needed a few days of additional rest.
Unfortunately we don’t often allow ourselves to rest properly. We try to suppress the fever or take antibiotics and steal away the body’s natural time out and opportunity to heal. 3. The seven layers of the Universe: Religion, philosophy and metaphysics describe worlds beyond the physical form. Western science seems to ignore this knowledge and still only acknowledges the physical world. At our institute we use a model of seven layers, from very subtle spiritual vibration to more and more dense appearances. The three levels of spiritual quality are followed by one of mental thought forms, one of emotional feelings and one of purely energetic manifestations, until form is so dense that it finally appears physically. In many cases, illness is ignored for a long time when it appeared first as negative thoughts, as a unpleasant emotion which did not leave, as discomfort in daily life until finally, after all, it breaks out as illness. John Weltheim, the founder of BodyTalk, said in a recent lecture, “If you wake up in the morning and you don’t feel joy, you’re sick.”
As much as I do not believe serious illness should be treated on any of those levels alone (not even just the physical one), it is essential in my experience and opinion to include all those other realms in a holistic approach. We can cut out a tumor, but if we don’t address the cause of the imbalance at the same time, we only temporarily fix a symptom. Next issue will continue with the remaining principles to keep one well-integrated, balanced and healthy. I’d like to mention an upcoming workshop on April 12th in Falmouth, Maine. We will have the time for a more in depth discussion and exercises in dowsing and Kinesiology to determine the state of house energies, geopathic stress, and lifestyle factors. We would love to have you and your friends there. For more information or to register, please contact us soon as the release of this issue is close to our workshop date.
